The inspiration behind 'the selfie' was the quote 'the eye is the window to the soul', said by William Shakespeare, therefore, in this image I put the galaxy in my eye, using photoshop. To make the post processing look realistic, I used the opacity brush, as otherwise it looked too artificial. If I were to do this photo again, I would maybe show the whole face, as the subtle galaxy eye is exactly that, subtle, therefore, if it were showing the whole face it would be more easier to spot. Also, although the naturalistic background is effectively blurred out, it could be more effective if a more interesting background were used.
Overall though, I believe this is an effective image because it is subtle and an interesting concept. |
Double exposure is a technique in which one image is layered on top of another. In this image, I decided to use my silhouette as well as a nature related picture I had taken myself; flowers. The double exposure is created by applying a coloured layer on top of a de-saturated image, and then cropping that coloured image around the subject of the black and white photograph, as well as changing the opacity to ensure you can see the subject. This creates an interesting effect, which can be used in all areas of photography, and is most notably used by Andreas Lie in his natural photography.
If I were to do this edit again, I would use a brighter image to layer over my silhouette, for example, a colourful firework, or more interesting flowers, as I like the idea of nature being involved in my work. |
In my Artist research, I did investigate Roy Lichtenstein's work, therefore, it seemed fitting to try and recreate his style in my own work. To create this image, I took a photo of the Lego figure, due to their simplistic and cartoony nature, and then drew around the figure in Photoshop. To further this, I filled in the block colours to create Lichtenstein's recognisable comic book style. To create the halftone effect, I used the sketch function within Photoshop, creating a reasonably effective image.
To further this idea, I would use different subjects within my halftone, for example, real people from my portraiture photographs, as this would relate more to Roy Lichtenstein's style, as he primarily focused on people, rather than still life. |
Multiplicity is an effective Photoshop skill, due to the simplicity, yet the overall interesting image it creates. In this image, I wanted the idea of the saying 'see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil', due to the repetition of the saying echoing in the repetitiveness of the model. In order to create this, I used a tripod to reduce the shakiness of the image, due to the fact that the background had to remain the same for each image. However, this meant that the slight tilt in each image had to remain, showing how I should have chosen the location of my shoot more effectively, however, I wanted the repeating pattern of the brick wall to show the repetitiveness already in my image - creating a motif.

To create this image, I paired a low key photograph with brushes downloaded to use in Photoshop. I then layered different 'smashed glass' brushes on top of one another to create a realistic look. The overall inspiration behind this image was the idea of brokenness, which is why I used a low key set up for the actual photograph, as they usually are more depressing than high key or natural lighting,
If I were to recreate this photo, I would do a shoot specifically for this style of Photoshop; for example, showing the whole models face in a close up image to show the intricate details of the cracks. |
In order to create this image I downloaded some brushes online, entitled 'flowers', I then stacked the different flowers on top of one another (around the model) to create this image. It is not realistic, however, I believe it is still effective. A low key portrait was used for this image, which is what I think makes it so effective, as the contrasting white silhouettes of the flowers against the black background makes them stand out significantly, rather than if it were a coloured background, for instance. Overall, a feeling of mystery and fantasy is created from this image, which is the effect I was intending
If I were to improve, I would maybe blend these artificial flowers with an image of a real one to create an intriguing image. |
